The Grilling is an interrogation phase in Pinoy Big Brother wherein the remaining housemates face controversial questions about them, defend themselves from negative criticisms thrown at them, and prove why they deserve to win the season.
It first appeared in Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition Plus. The twist returned to the series during Pinoy Big Brother: 737 and has been a series tradition since often in various names, helping the viewers choose the rightful Big Winner who fully embodied its main criteria: "Pagpapakatotoo" (Authenticity).
The Interrogation[]
Intended as the final test of character, the Grilling usually occurs in either the penultimate or final week of the season, often after the season's Big Four has been named.
During the interrogation, the remaining housemates individually face the grilling panel consisted of the season's evicted housemates. The evicted housemates typically preside the interrogation session in a grueling and intimidating manner, while the housemates on trial must answer every question truthfully.
The questions typically discuss the housemate's overall qualities in the competition, and how much they embodied the show's concept of "Pagpapakatotoo" (Authenticity). The interrogation questions also discuss actions, issues, and controversies related to the housemate on trial that viewers and their fellow evicted housemates think are questionable and aren't expected from a Big Winner. On rare occasions, trick questions may also get asked.
