Shackles are a recurring punishment in Big Brother that is usually the result of a Power of Veto competition. The HouseGuest who receives this punishment must be shackled to the Housemate of his or her choosing at either the wrist or the ankle for 24 hours.


Big Brother 8

Following the Cutthroat Christmas Power of Veto competition in week 2, Amber Siyavus had to choose someone to spend 24 hours handcuffed to at the wrist. She chose Kail Harbick.

Big Brother 12

Following the Big Brother Zoo Power of Veto competition in week 7, Brendon Villegas had to choose someone to be handcuffed to for 24 hours. He chose Britney Haynes.

Big Brother 14

Following the Draw Something Power of Veto competition in week 7, Britney Haynes and Danielle Murphree spent 24 hours chained together at the ankle.

Big Brother 15

GinaMarie Zimmerman and McCrae Olson were given "The Gift of Friendship" by Head of Household Spencer Clawson, which meant that they had to be tied together at the wrist by a "friendship bracelet."

Big Brother 16

Caleb Reynolds and Victoria Rafaeli were attached at the wrist for 48 hours by a "vine" as a part of the "Adam and Eve" punishment for winning the week 6 Battle of the Block competition, Domino Effect.

Big Brother 17

Jackie Ibarra and Vanessa Rousso were attached at the ankle for 24 hours in which Vanessa was the squire to Jackie as a punishment from the week 6 Power of Veto competition, Game of Throws.

Big Brother 19

Paul Abrahamian and Christmas Abbott were attached at the torso for 48 hours as part of the "Tandem Skydiving" punishment from the week 7 Power of Veto competition, BB Adventure Tours.


  • Britney Haynes is the only houseguest to be shackled twice.
  • Britney and Paul Abrahamian are the only houseguests to be shackled on their second season.
  • On Big Brother 17, this punishment was awarded concurrently with the unitard punishment. Jackie had received the "Knight in Shining Armortard", while Vanessa was the squire.
