Pinoy Big Brother 8, officially called as Pinoy Big Brother Otso is a five-part series and is the eighth edition and 14th overall season of the Philippine series, Pinoy Big Brother.

According to Director Laurenti Dyogi, the series will have another drastically new theme and gameplay as it will revolve around the eight and infinity concept all throughout, due to the large amount of exactly 55,373 auditionees who tried their luck to become a housemate.

The season's tagline is "Ang Otso, Magpapakatotoo Hanggang Dulo! (Eng. The eight will get real until the End!)" which hints towards the season's major twist.

Developments

On the final night of Pinoy Big Brother: Lucky 7, the hosts Toni Gonzaga, Bianca Gonzales and Robi Domingo hinted for a new upcoming season during the closing spiel of the show by saying It has been the longest and biggest season of Pinoy Big Brother, so far!.

Pinoy Big Brother's official Facebook page also posted a photo of the crew with the Season 7 housemates during the PBB Thanksgiving Party with a caption; On behalf of the people behind PBB, Thank you for all of your support. See you next season!.

In September 2017, an alleged Season 8 casting auditions had spread on Facebook stating that there will be auditions on October 15th 2017, The ABS-CBN and Pinoy Big Brother management quickly denied such auditions and and condemned such fake accounts.

On March 28, 2018, Pinoy Big Brother hinted for a "BIG" announcement coming through their Twitter account.

PBB: Road to Season 8

On August 31, 2018, As part of the promotional teaser for this season, Pinoy Big Brother announced the PBB: Balikbahay (Back to the House) on Youtube. It will be a series of videos featuring memorable moments and highlights from the past 13 seasons from the very first season up to the 13th edition.

The very first teaser of PBB8

On October 20, 2018, the first ever teaser for the season was finally released. The teaser contained highlights from the past series and winning moments of all the Big Winners. It also featured Big Brother's voice at the end by saying "Did you miss my voice?". The teaser also featured a montage of the series' past season logos until the new one was revealed.

The season's official logo was revealed in the teaser. The new logo features a flat, simple and minimalist design. Unlike last season, the logo shifted back to a graphical eye while retaining the house element in the logo. The font changed subtly and the word "otso" which means "eight" in Filipino language was highlighted.

The eye features elements of the Philippine flag as well as the national colors.

As revealed on the second teaser trailer that premiered on October 28, 2018, Toni Gonzaga reprises her role as the show's main presenter for this season together with co-host, Robi Domingo. Bianca Gonzalez withdrew from her hosting duties this year due to pregnancy. Mariel Rodriguez chose not to reprise her role due to busy schedule regarding her baby and hosting It's Showtime.

As a result of Mariel Rodriguez and Bianca Gonzalez's absence, three new alumni joined in as co-hosts this season. Alex Gonzaga joins her sister in hosting the season, after her supposed first PBB hosting stint which turned out to be a set-up for her surprise entry as house guest in 2014. Big Winners Kim Chiu and Melisa Cantiveros who also co-hosted the docu-reality series "Star Hunt: Grand Audition Show" were also added to the set of hosts this year who were nicknamed as "Big Brother's Assistants" as said in the teaser trailer.

As of November 9th, Robi, Alex, Kim and Melisa will be hosting the afternoon companion show Pinoy Big Brother Otso Gold.

House Blessing and Alumni Homecoming

On November 8th, 2018, two days prior to the live premiere, the annual house blessing was done together with the show's production staff, ABS-CBN's unit heads, other guests as well as some alumni from Season 1 to Lucky 7. An Alumni Homecoming took place in the newly-renovated Big Brother house and gathered together.

On March 29, 2018, ABS-CBN officially announced Star Hunt Grand Auditions. The network executives revealed the Grand Audition system was launched as a general casting event for all of the network's talent and reality competition series, describing it as a "one stop shop" type of casting process.

Casting Auditions were held in various provinces in the Philippines as well as in some countries with a sizeable Filipino diaspora. The Casting Auditions for Star Hunt were separated into three categories; Kids, Teens, and Adults.

Star Hunt: Grand Audition Show

On August 20, 2018, the StarHunt: Grand Audition Show premiered on ABS-CBN. The show follows a reality-documentary series format, wherein every weekday from Mondays to Fridays, each episode features inspiring life stories of several auditionees of any age group and their journey throughout the four stages of auditions. The show would also reveal which certain auditionee would appear on which ABS-CBN show they would be chosen to appear.

The show is hosted by four Pinoy Big Brother alumni; Teen Edition 1 winner, Kim Chiu; Teen Edition Plus runner-up, Robi Domingo; Double Up winner, Melisa Cantiveros; and All In's Alex Gonzaga.

Two Night Kick-Off Premiere

Toni Gonzaga and Alex Gonzaga open the show with an opening number, together with Big Brother's former housemates!

The season launch was divided into two-parts to accommodate the season's twist. The male housemates were introduced in the first evening while the female housemates were to be introduced on the second night of the launch.

The Live Kick-Off took place infront of the Pinoy Big Brother House was attended by several former Pinoy Big Brother housemates who were now officially called as the Pinoy Big Brotherhood.

Big Brother's Alumni or the "Pinoy Big Brotherhood" had a bigger participation this season for the first time. They were tasked to certain roles for the premiere. Some alumni were tasked to give the viewers a house tour, some were tasked to host the Online Exclusive aired every commercial break in online livestream. All of the present alumni also participated in the Kick Off's opening production number. The show's presenters, the Gonzaga sisters Toni Gonzaga and Alex Gonzaga sang a new song for the season, entitled "Otso Na! (lit. It's finally Eight!) signifying the start of a new series.

Eight Big Winners also attended the live launch who played an important role as the Big Winner Council in the Housemate Selection twist.

On September 7, 2018, a sneak peak of the house renovation for this season was revealed by Director Laurenti Dyogi on his youtube vlog, Vlog#19. In the vlog entry, he revealed that for this season, the floor plan layout of the house will have a massive transformation from the past seasons and only the pool area remained noticeable.

It would be the first time since Pinoy Big Brother: Double Up that the series would have a total reconstruction of the house's interior layout.

The house for this season has a modern tropical interior vibe and design with earthy tones such as greens and browns dominating the colors in the house, especially in the living room and dining room. Native Tropical Filipino elements and aesthetics such as weave patterns and wood textures were also incorporated in the design.

Big Brother's former housemates take a tour inside the new Big Brother House!

The floor plan was noticeably different and for the first time, the bedrooms were now facing and have direct access to the Pool Area. The living, dining and kitchen area now has an open plan layout. A long hallway that leads to the Confession Room, Eviction Room and Storage Room was also present. The Storage Room now becomes the first room to be entered if one entered via Facade's foyer. The Garden and the Activity Area are still distinguishably intact.

One important noticeable difference of this house to a usual Big Brother house is that, for this house, they got rid of the one-way mirrors that usually surrounds the house. This time, they used a new way of capturing the house where they would rely solely on CCTV cameras to capture the house.

The house was designed by interior designers' Aisa Sta. Maria and Jen Soliman of J-Designs.

Camp Star Hunt

A twist about second house called "Camp Star Hunt" was revealed at the end of the second live premiere episode where those who failed to gain an official housemate status would stay while fighting their way to get into the Big Brother House and be an official housemate.

Production Changes

• Five-Part Season: For the second time, just like in Pinoy Big Brother 7, this season will be divided into parts, but with a very different gameplay to the previous series.
• New Gameplay: As part of the series' theme and concept, this season will have a new way of playing the Big Brother game, with a new format in relation to the season's theme.
• Alumni Involvement: For the first time, the alumni or former housemates will have larger involvement and larger part to play in throughout this season.
• 4 Batch Winners, One Ultimate Big Winner: In every batch, there will be a winner and at the end chapter of the series, these 4 batch winners will come back to continue their fight to to become the season's ultimate Big Winner.
• New Theme Song: A new special theme song for the season was introduced live on the season premiere launch called "Otso Na! (lit. This is Eight!)".
• Technical Upgrade: As revealed on Laurenti Dyogi's vlog, the house cameras increased and were now upgraded to HD cameras and additional GoPro cameras. A huge improvement was also made to the production's control room. According to Big Brother's Dutch consultants Anushka and Martijn, the production's upgrade was to enhance a new way of having a hands-on and dramatic storytelling. As a result of this upgrade, camera alleys inside the main house area were removed.
• Two-Night Premiere: This season will have a two-night premiere event to accomodate the housemate selection twist. On the first night, the male housemates were introduced while the second night were the females.
• Two Houses: Once again, there will be two houses used for this season to accomodate the season's twist.
• Changes to Nomination & Eviction Schedule: With the new format, the nominations and eviction were now done within every Sunday live episode, only to be separated by a commercial break as opposed to the one week gap between the two.

This season introduced a new format of gameplay, which is connected to the season's theme. This is the first time that this format will be implemented in the history of Pinoy Big Brother.

Overview of the Season's Format

This season will have four chapters called "Batches". The type of housemates for each batch are the following: Batch 1: 8 Teen Housemates Batch 2: 8 Civilian Adult Housemates Batch 3: 8 Teen Housemates Batch 4: 8 Civilian Adult Housemates In every batch, The first 16 Star Hunt shortlisters called "Star Dreamers" will be introduced, but only 8 of them would earn the official housemate status and move in to the Big Brother House. The first 8 Official Housemates to enter in every batch will be determined by a series of Housemate Selection process. Those 8 Star Dreamers who failed to become an official housemate will be sent to a special place called Camp Star Hunt where they will be staying over the weeks facing various challenges in order to prove their worth of becoming an official housemate and move to the Big Brother House. The number of housemates inside the Big Brother House will always remain 8. It means that there will always be 8 housemates living in the house up until the end of the series. It also applies to the number of Star Dreamers living in the camp. Each batch will last for 8 weeks and in every eviction, one official housemate will be evicted from the Big Brother House and he/she will be replaced by one Star Dreamer from Camp StarHunt who will become an official housemate. Because of this, the number of housemates in the Big Brother House will always revert back to eight every week up until the end of every batch. Meanwhile, once a Star Dreamer moves out from the Camp Star Hunt, he/she will be replaced by a new Star Dreamer who will move in to the camp, reverting their number back to 8 as well. On the eighth week of every batch, a "Batch Winner" will be determined among the 8 official housemates who managed to remain in the Big Brother House until Week 8. After the four batches determine its Batch Winners, these 4 batch winners will re-enter the house once again and will compete for the "Ultim8 Batch". They will be joined by four fan-favorite housemates, one per each batch, to complete the Ultimate Chapter. Ultim8 Batch: 4 Batch Winners + 4 Fan Favorites From there, in the final two weeks of the season, the 4 Batch Winners and 4 Fan Favorites will fight their way to the top in order to become the season's Ultim8 Big Winner!

OTSO Twists

• Eight Housemates: Throughout each batch, the maximum number of housemates is eight. As the season's tagline says, eight until the end, there will be no deduction to the eight housemates as whenever a housemate leaves, a new one moves in.

• One Out, One In: For 8 weeks, in each eviction night, one housemate from the Big Brother House will be voted out and be evicted. On the otherhand, his/her spot will be taken by a Star Dreamer from Camp StarHunt who will cross-over to the Big Brother House and become an Official Housemate.

• Star Dreamers: On the launch night, 16 Potential Shortlist Housemates officially called as "Star Dreamers" were introduced on the live launch wherein they must undergo through the Housemate Selection twist in order to earn the "official housemate" status. Only 8 of these Star Dreamers would become an official housemate.

• Live Housemate Selection: The first twist of this series is that, since only 8 housemates will enter the house per each batch, the potential shortlist housemates must undergo through a series of selection process right in front of a live audience in the premiere night. The processes are the following:
  • 88-Second Challenge: The first and second official housemate will be determined by the 88 Seconds Challenge. The winners from the two sets of Star Dreamers will earn the official housemate status.
  • Big Winners' Choice: 8 Big Winners, also called as "Council of 8" would sit on the jury panel and they must select one shortlist housemate. The shortlist housemate with the most votes from the panel would be an official housemate.
  • Viewer Votes: The viewers will be the ones who will determine who among the remaining unselected shortlisters will be an official housemate. The one with the most votes from the viewers would an the official housemate. This would make the number of housemates in the Big Brother to always revert back to 8, up until the 8th Week of each batch.

• Camp StarHunt: A special area called "Camp StarHunt" was introduced on Day 2, where the 8 Star Dreamers who failed to become an official housemate would live, stay and fight for their place to get into the Big Brother House. They must prove their worth on becoming an official housemate. For more information, check out the Camp Star Hunt.

• Ultim8 Batch: With the completion of the first four batches with its four batch winners, the batch winners will re-enter the house and. Together with one fan favorite housemate chosen by the viewers from each of the four batches, they will fight their way up in order to become the season's Ultim8 Big Winner.

• Back-to-Back Nominations and Eviction: Nomination and Eviction happens in the same evening, separated only by a commercial break.

• Big Celebr8ty Challenge: Every week, the housemates would be paired up to compete for immunity. As part of their challenge, various celebrities would visit the house each week and participate to challenge the housemates' focus and presence of mind. The winning pair would receive immunity and will be safe from nominations.

• Throwback Tasks & Challenges: Some of the challenges or tasks done in the past seasons would re-appear once more in this season.

• Big Jump Challenge: As the end of every batch approaches, a Batch Big Four will be formed and the eligible official housemates will compete in the Big Jump wherein the winner will automatically get the 1st slot in the batch's Big Four.

Batch 1 Twists

• Decemversus: On Week 5, the twist was introduced where the Official housemates and Star Dreamers will fight for their slots in the house throughout the week in a series of challenges. If the official housemates lost, two of them will be evicted and will be replaced by two Star Dreamers. If they won the challenge, only one of them will get evicted at the end of the week.

• House Players: The Star Dreamers who failed to cross-over as official housemates together with Aljon Mendoza were assigned by Big Brother to become House Players where they must accomplish a series of tasks to test the Teen Housemates on who are the most deserving to be part of the Big Four. P10,000 cash reward is at stake for every task given to the house players and the total amount of reward that they collected would be divided for each of the 8 Star Dreamers.
  • Ultimate House Player: On Week 7, the House Players must vote among each other who must become the "Ultim8 House Player" and will go in the Big Brother House as a mole and must pretend that he/she is the latest official housemate in order to shake things up in the house to reveal who deserves the most to be the Batch Winner.

• Eviction Competition: Coming back from the previous season, the Eviction Competition was brought back as an eviction process for nominated housemates Rhys Eugenio, Seth Fedelin and Karina Bautista on Day 54.

Housemate Selection History

The first 8 Official Housemates are determined by the Live Housemate Selection process. However, those who failed to get the first 8 official housemate slots still have a chance to become one if they were selected to cross-over from the Camp Star Hunt to replace the week's evictee.

One housemate must throw the frisbee with a plastic cup above it, while another housemate at the end of the court must be able to catch the frisbee with the pingpong ball in it. On the other hand, one housemate must be able to shoot the pingpong ball into the frisbee cup as it is being thrown before the catcher gets the frisbee. To win the task, they must be able to shoot atleast three balls within three days. The first layer must occupy the full circumference of the circular table provided for them. On the other hand, eight layers are needed for an upgrade to a premium package. Together with Criza Taa, his former campmate, and Lie, the loudest housemate in the BB House, Rhys must sneak in two Camp Star Hunt Star Dreamers; Gabby Sarmiento and Sansan Dagumampan inside the Big Brother House while the housemates are asleep. 10	Day 20 November 28, 2018	Secret Task		Sneaking In - Part 2 As continuation of Rhys' Secret Task, he must sneak in Gabby Sarmiento and Sansan Dagumampan inside the house. This time, they must perform the secret task with the awake housemates. The two intruders must be able to go inside the girls' and boys' bedrooms and successfully sit on every bed of the two bedrooms. Rhys together with his secret companions for the task, must sneak in food form the party for the two Star Dreamers to eat while the rest were partying at the garden. 11	Day 23 December 2, 2018	Special Personal Task		Big Helpers After discovering that Kaori Oinuma and Karina Bautista developed a cold and somehow distant relationship with their mothers who work overseas in the domestic field, Big Brother put them in their mothers' shoes by making them domestic helpers in the house for three days to make them understand the sacrifices of their parents. Kaori's mom works as a caregiver while Karina's mom works by taking care of a blind child. They must become servants to the housemates by cooking for them, waking them up, following their whims, cleaning the house and even washing their clothes by hand. They were also restricted to join the housemates when eating at the table and they were made to sleep in the spare room.	A surprise reward to be able to talk to their mothers.
12	Day 25 December 4, 2018	Entry Task		Pinoy Big Fighter As a way of entrance, new housemate Ali Abinal must transform into a video game character. He was also given a special haircut through a random draw. He was blindfolded in the game, and the housemates has the control to move him around the obstacle course by giving him commands. He must be able to hit 7 targets to reveal the codes that will unlock the doors to the main house. On the otherhand, 3 of the targets contain a certain consequence and if one of the housemates hit one of those 3 targets, he/she must choose a random box placed in the house to reveal the consequence. 13	Day 30 December 9, 2018	Entry Task		Volleyball As a way of Reign Parani's entrance, she must be able to rally 8 consecutive times with each of the three housemates Seth Fedelin, Ali Abinal and Rhys Eugenio without falling to the ground. 14	Day 32 December 11, 2018	Special Task		House or Camp? After former Star Dreamer Ali Abinal together with other former Star Dreamers who managed to cross-over to the house, Reign Parani and Rhys Eugenio kept discussing to each other on how they felt like outsiders in the house and how they miss the Camp Star Hunt and their fellow Star Dreamers, Big Brother gave them a difficult choice which tested their friendship and loyalty to both sides in regards to the week's Decemversus Challenge, a competition which pitted the Team House against the Team Camp. They were given a decision on which side they must play for at the Decemversus Challenge. Big Brother set up flags with the housemates faces on it at the garden area. If any of the three former Star Dreamers decided to take themselves out of the Team House for the Decemversus, they must pull out their flag out of the roster as a symbol of withdrawal from the Team House and a symbol of team shift to the Team Camp. 15	Day 39 December 18, 2018	Side Task		PBB Otsodition To get additional members for their teams, Jelay Pilones and Lie Reposposa must hold a casting audition. The auditionees would be the Camp Star Hunt Star Dreamers and they must persuade the Star Dreamer auditionees to join to their team. The Star Dreamers would be joining on their "Big OTSO Concert" performances.	To get members for their concert task and challenge.
16	Day 44 December 23, 2018	Reward Task		Gift Giving On the morning of December 23rd, the Teen Housemates woke up finding a shelf filled with Miniso products placed around the house's Christmas Tree. Big Brother gave them a chance to shop and choose several things to give as Christmast presents for their loved ones.	To give Christmas gifts for their loved ones.
17	Day 44 December 23, 2018	Reward Task		Guess the Loved One As the Christmas eve arrives, Big Brother gave each 8 Teen Housemates a chance to meet a loved one from the outside world, only if they guess their loved one correctly in a Blindfolded Guessing game. The Star Dreamers would be participating in the task for their first House Player task. One by one while blindfolded inside the activity area, the housemates must guess who among 8 people that helped them eat their favorite dish is their loved one and must correctly guess who that certain relative is. If correctly guessed, they would be able to spend a short time with them and be able to give the Christmas gifts that they picked for their families.	To spend a short amount of time with their loved ones.
18	Day 45 December 24, 2018	Christmas Dinner Party		Big Christmas Feast On Christmas Eve, Big Brother opened the House for the Camp Star Hunt Dreamers to celebrate the Noche Buena or the traditional Christmas Midnight feast. For the first time, all Star Dreamers visited the Big Brother House for a Christmas Dinner Party with the Teen Housemates. They also brought in dishes for the Dinner Party. After dinner, the housemates and the Star Dreamers participated in fun Christmas Party games. The Housemates and the Star Dreamers also had exchange gifts with each other.	To spend Christmas with everyone.
19	Day 52 December 31, 2018	New Year's Eve Party		2019 New Year's Celebration The Housemates welcomed 2019 by celebrating the New Year's Eve.	To spend New Year with everyone.
20	Day 54 January 2, 2018	Special Safety Task		Do or Die Ligtask Karina Bautista, Rhys Eugenio & Seth Fedelin who chose not to play in the Big Jump Challenge were punished by becoming nominees. However, Big Brother gave them a second chance to prove their worth as housemates. To save themselves, they must be able to complete a task, similar to the first Big Jump Challenge but with harder mechanics. For their task, they have to successfully transfer eight balls through a maze before the sun sets. If they win, they will get their nominated status nullified, but if they lost, they will stay as nominees where one of them will be evicted through an Eviction Competition.	To get their nominated status nullified.

Big Celebr8ty Challenge

The Ligtask Challenge was brought back in the form of the Big Celebr8ty Challenge. Every Saturday, the housemates will compete in a challenge for an Immunity from the Nominations. Each week, there will be a celebrity guests that would be participating for certain roles in the challenge.

4	Seth & Lie Karina & Jelay Rhys & Ali Kaori & Juliana		Jungle Bells In a jungle called Jungle Bells, there are four boxes filled with a set of animals each. Each box has a corresponding empty box found at the other side of the activity area. The housemates must transfer each of the animals in the corresponding empty boxes. After transferring they must count the animals inside each four boxes. They must correctly answer an equation which requires the quantity of each set of animals to be able to solve the equation. The equation goes "Frog x Chicken ÷ Lizard + Eel - Snake". The correct solution must be "10 x 9 ÷ 15 + 5 - 2" while the correct answer must be "9". The two pairs who solved the correct answer the fastest would be safe from facing eviction while the losing pairs would be nominated for eviction. Since Aljon Mendoza was ineligible to compete for being automatically nominated, Kaori got the celebrity guest, Juliana as her partner. Big Jump Challenge

An important part of the Pinoy Big Brother Game, the housemates who were eligible or chose to compete for the Big Jump will have the chance to get a slot in the Big Four with the Big Jump Winner automatically securing the 1st slot of the Big Four slots.

1	Lie Jelay Kaori Reign	Day 50		Big Pole Balance Each Players will have a ball and a long pole with a small skimmer at the end. They must be able to pass the ball placed on a flat skimmer through a maze without falling. A draw lots system was used to determine who goes first through the wire maze. If the ball fell to the ground, they have to go back at the start of the maze. The player who managed to finish the maze first without letting the ball fall, will win the challenge and will get the first Big Four slot for their batch. In addition, the Camp's Star Dreamers were given a chance to choose a player they want to help and the chosen player will receive an aid advantage from the Star Dreamers.	Jillian Pilones
2	Lie Karina Kaori Reign Seth	Day 55		Last Doll Standing Each Player must hold a pole with dolls of themselves placed standing on top. The goal is to not let the doll fall to the ground. For every certain intervals instructed by Big Brother, the players must add an extension to the pole. Decemversus Challenge

On the fifth week of the 1st Batch, the Decemversus Challenge was revealed as a competition between the Official Housemates against the Star Dreamers of Camp Star Hunt. If the Official Housemates got defeated by the Camp Star Hunt dreamers, there would be a double eviction and two Star Dreamers would replace them instead. If the House wins against the Camp, only one housemate would be evicted and only one Star Dreamer would enter at the end of the week.

1		Big Circle Dance In a game similar to a "Newspaper Dance", there are 8 big circles with the first circle being the largest and the eighth being the smallest. All members of both teams must fit in all 8 circles and must stay within the cicle for 8 seconds. The time spent on every circle will be recorded and accumulated. The team with the least amount of accumulated time spent will win. Team House Team Camp	Loss	Win
2		Big Slingshot In this game, both teams must become a "Human Slingshot". Each team has 15 shots to use for shooting. There are 8 Big Targets located high up on the other end of the Activity Area. The team with the most hits wins the challenge. Team House Team Camp	Loss	Win
3		Part 1 - Ball Balance Relay There are 8 balls of different sizes and they must transfer the balls from one end to another by using a series of planks with various shapes. Part 2 - Hole in the Wall Maze By using a pulley machine, the players, while standing in a narrow beam, must place four balls of different sizes on top end of the wall maze filled with varying sizes holes. The team who finished the entire challenge the fastest wins. This game is also the 4th Big Celebr8ty Challenge where if ever the Official Housemates win against the Team Camp, the double eviction will not be pushed through. Note: On Game 1, Ali Abinal, Reign Parani and Rhys Eugenio played among the Official Housemates for the House Team. By the second game, a day prior to the challenge, Big Brother gave them a choice on which side they would choose knowing that they were also former Star Dreamers from the camp. All three of them decided to move to Team Camp with their original campmates leaving the Team House with its remaining five original official housemates. By Game 3, Rhys Eugenio decided to move back to the Team Housemates after realizing that their previous decision was unfair to the five Official Housemates.

Eviction Competition

On 8th Week of Batch 1, after Rhys Eugenio, Karina Bautista and Seth Fedelin who refused to fight for the Big Jump failed a special second chance task that would save them from being nominated, Big Brother gave them a last straw by proceeding the eviction through an Eviction Competition.

Note: Gabby Sarmiento and Sansan Dagumampan are not official housaemates. They were voted by their fellow Star Dreamers in the Camp as the Ultimate House Players to move in to the Big Brother House and disguise themselves as official houseamtes for their House player task. Previously-evicted Housemate Aljon Mendoza was sent to the Camp to participate as a House Player for the House Player Twist. Missy Quino made a voluntary exit out of the Big Brother House but Big Brother transfered her to the Camp instead to follow the season's "eight people per house" format as introducing a new additional star dreamer in the camp is already over and would be unnecessary during the point in the game. She was added as a House Player for the House Player twist. Rhys Eugenio got evicted on Day 54 but just like Missy, he was sent to the Camp to become a house player instead of fully evicting him out of the house.

Big Brother aims to make his housemates to value his commands, his house rules and one's self-discipline. He is very strict when it comes to rules so whenever a housemate violates a rule, he/she will receive a corresponding punishment.

Batch One: Teens' Notable Punishments

1	November 15, 2018 (Day 6)		Not Wearing Lapel Mic		Human Otso-pus The four male teen housemates, Aljon,Seth Fedelin, Art Guma and Josh Worsley were punished by becoming a human octopus after forgetting to put on their lapel microphones at all times. Each of them will also have weights and the number of weights on every housemate depends on how many times they failed to wear their lapel microphones. To make it even difficult, Big Brother assigned them some household chores such as washing dishes and washing the floor. The punishment would be lifted until further notice.
2	November 21, 2018 (Day 12)		Not Wearing Lapel Mic		Big Bibig (lit. Big Mouth) Jelay and Lie were punished by Big Brother after committing violations. As a punishment, they must become "Big Bibig" or "Big Mouth" wherein every time they speak they must also move the huge mouth they were wearing. To add difficulty, they were tasked to become "Bibig Katotohanan" (Mouth of Truth) where they must confess their real feelings, whether positive or negative, to their fellow housemates .

4	December 5, 2018 (Day 26)		Discussing Nominations		Automatic Nomination Seth Fedelin, Aljon Mendoza and Jillian Pilones received a second warning regarding violations. Since it's a rule that receiving two strikes of violation notice would mean receiving an Automatic Nomination, the three of them were punished by making them automatically nominated for Eviction. However, Big Brother gave them a chance to remove their automatic nomination by winning the their 4th Weekly Task.

Big Brother brought it up and punished Wakim by making him wear wooden clog slippers made to resemble a side table. As the punishment were given while their "A Quiet House" weekly task was ongoing, he was prohibited to make a sound as well.
13	February 4, 2019 (Day 21)		Breaking Objects (2x)		Bucket Hands Apey and André Brouillette,Yamyam and Fumiya were all punished by Big Brother after committing several violations. They were punished by having their hands become shattered pieces of a bucket. They were grouped into two pairs and they must piece together the bucket with their pair at all times. In addition, they were forbidden to sit down. To end their punishment, Big Brother gave them a task by requiring to fill up an aquarium tank with water from a large faucet using their bucket hands.

Controversies

Pinoy Big Brother Otso Controversies
Fake News and Cyberbullying Bianca Gonzalez and Robi Domingo discussing the issues spreading online, together with a special panel called "Comment8tators" and a public audience panel called "ThumbBayan" on YouthTube. Within just two weeks since the season launch, some of the housemates couldn't escape the harsh comments and issues made by several netizens in various social media sites. Throughout the first two weeks, various fake news and statements were posted in social media targeting housemates Angelie Reposposa, Art Guma and Criza Taa. Angelie Reposposa who naturally has a wacky and eccentric character was heavily bashed on Facebook and Twitter for being an over-reacting person while Art Guma was criticized regarding his sexuality and received discriminating and derogatory comments. Some fake news and clickbait videos started spreading in Youtube headlining his "coming out" to Big Brother when in fact it didn't happen at all. On the otherhand, the first Camp Starhunt Dreamer to cross over the Big Brother House, Criza Taa received harsh hate comments in social media after some fake transcripts of the housemates' conversation started spreading on Facebook. To address the issue and protect its housemates, Pinoy Big Brother started airing a weekly digital live talkshow on Facebook and Youtube similar to Pinoy Big Brother Online called "Youthtube", hosted by Robi Domingo and Bianca Gonzalez. The open forum talkshow together with special panel of guests from various fields from psychology to judiciary, discussed the issues regarding these housemates' issues on social media. They also tackled the issue of Fake News, Cyber Libel and Cybercrime and gave insights on how to combat these controversies and what consequences will people face if these were brought to the hands of the law. Official Housemates - Star Dreamers Rivalry Because of the format of this season, a controversy between the Official Housemates and Star Dreamers arose among the fandom throughout the "first batch" of the series when some avid fans of the original 8 official teen housemates voiced their dismay on how Camp Star Hunt's Star Dreamers started replacing their favorite official housemates in the Big Brother House. This led to Star Dreamers generally receiving hate comments for no apparent reasons from some of the official housemates' fans, who were mostly teenage fans. The controversy further heightened on Week 5, after Ali Abinal, Rhys Eugenio and Reign Parani who were originally from Camp Star Hunt chose to help their fellow Camp Star Hunt Star Dreamers in the Decemversus Challenge instead of helping their fellow Official Housemates to get two slots to cross-over as Official Housemates, which in turn has to evict two official housemates who were already in the Big Brother House. Their decision to refuse helping the Team House led to a confusion and a feeling of betrayal among Jillian Pilones, Seth Fedelin, Karina Bautista, Kaori Oinuma and Lie reposposa, the remaining 5 official housemates, as the knowledge about the Camp's existence was still kept secret from them at that time. Because of the act in which Ali, Reign and Rhys think is a loyal, generous act towards their fellow Star Dreamers, the three were harshly bashed by the official housemates' fans on social media, calling them hateful words such as "fake", "traitor" and "snake". The controversial act of the housemates as well as the over the line hatred and harsh words of these fans on social media towards the Star Dreamers were eventually discussed in the series' online talk show, "Youth Tube" in the Team Bahay vs Team Camp episode aired on December 16, 2018. To prevent the same issue from happening in the 2nd Batch, the production made a new twist where all contestants would start as Star Dreamers in the Camp Star Hunt before the Housemate Selection for the first 8 official housemates would even begin.

• Although officially called as the eighth season. This series is the fourth season to feature a combined edition of Teens and Civilians.
• This is the first season of Pinoy Big Brother to have housemates chosen from a general casting process of ABS-CBN.
• The season is the first season to include a Filipino word in its title and logo.
  • The word "Otso" (pronounced as "ocho" like in Spanish) is a Filipino word for "eight".
• Basing on the season's format, this season will be the longest season yet in Pinoy Big Brother, surpassing the preceding season, Pinoy Big Brother: Lucky 7 which had 235 days.
• This season is one of the seasons to be aired at an earlier timeslot on weekends, as the Weekend edition airs at 7:30 PM, while earlier seasons had their earlier editions air later than 9:00 PM.
  • After the first batch, the timeslot is expected to be switched back to 10:00 PM on Saturdays, and 9:30 PM on Sundays to give way to World of Dance Philippines.
• The official social media hashtag for the season is #PBBOtso.
• Because of its' unique format, this is the season with the least complete number of housemates living inside one house, with only 8 housemates.
  • Pinoy Big Brother 7's Celebrity Edition also had 8 housemates but one are pair housemates making them overall nine people living in the house.
• This season is the first ever season to have a house without any one-way mirror nor camera runs in the history of Pinoy Big Brother, and perhaps the entire Big Brother internationally. It solely relied on HD CCTV and Go Pro Cameras to capture the whole house.
  • This season's house is the first house in Pinoy Big Brother history to be equipped with all HD cameras.
• The song Otso Na! (This is Eight!) sung by Toni Gonzaga and Alex Gonzaga was a song specially made for this season, and was used as the theme song for the Official Housemates. It can be downloaded in iTunes or be played in Spotify.
  • Camp Star Hunt also had a theme song dedicated for the Star Dreamers, entitled Bituin (Star) sung by Pinoy Big Brother 7 winner, Maymay Entrata.
• The official Eviction song of this season is Before It Sinks In by Moira Dela Torre.

Batch 1

• The Season's Batch 1, which is a Teen Edition is the first ever Teen Edition to feature teen housemates who were all born in the 2000s.
• The Batch 1 produced an all-female Big Four, making it the very first time in Pinoy Big Brother history that the Big Four finalists were all females.
• The Batch 1 Edition is technically the 7th Teen Edition to be aired in the series but since this edition was aired under a combined season, it's not regarded as such.
• Batch 1's Teen Housemate Josh Worsley was born in 2005, the same year that Pinoy Big Brother started.

Batch 2

• This is the first batch with housemates entering the house with a prior knowledge to the main format of the game, unlike in the first Batch where the theme and Camp Star Hunt remained secret for the original 8 Official Housemates who entered until on Week 5.

The Ultimate Batch

• The Ultimate Batch is the 2nd Edition to feature returning players from a previous edition, although the returning players were from the current season's past batch editions and not from the past seasons.
  • This is also first edition to feature players who previously won in a previous edition.
• The Ultimate Batch follows an "All-Star" format similar to Pinoy Big Brother: Lucky 7's Dream Team Chapter, albeit with a different gameplay and mechanics.
