Batch 1 is the first batch to air in Pinoy Big Brother: Otso.

Background

The batch was notable for having the first all-female Big Four in the history of Pinoy Big Brother as well as the original housemates' rivalry with Camp Star Hunt Star Dreamers. Camp Star Hunt was first introduced in this batch, and remained in secret to the original official housemates until Week 5.

In this batch, Jelay Pilones, Kaori Oinuma, Karina Bautista, and Lie Reposposa emerged as the Batch Big Four, with Lie eventually declared as the Batch Winner. After almost 6 months after their batch ended, the Batch 1 Big Four returned to the house to compete with other batches' Big Four for the Ultim8 Batch.

Batch 1 was represented by Team 4G in the Ultim8 Batch, with blue as their batch color, and #Batch1andOnly as their batch's official codename.

Twists

• Batch 1 Housemate Selection: Batch 1 being the batch to enter during the live season premiere, had various housemate selections for the first 8 housemates to enter. Meanwhile, the non-winning contestants were sent to the camp instead. The selection processes consisted of the following:
  • 88-Second Challenge: The first and second official housemate will be determined by the 88 Seconds Challenge. The winners from the two sets of Star Dreamers will earn the official housemate status.
  • Big Winners' Choice: 8 Big Winners, also called as "Council of 8" would sit on the jury panel and they must select one shortlist housemate. The shortlist housemate with the most votes from the panel would be an official housemate.
  • Viewer Votes: The viewers will be the ones who will determine who among the remaining unselected shortlisters will be an official housemate. The one with the most votes from the viewers would an the official housemate. This would make the number of housemates in the Big Brother to always revert back to 8, up until the 8th Week of each batch.

• Back-to-Back Nominations and Eviction: A special change for this season was related to the show's format. Every week on the first teen batch, Nominations and Eviction occurred within a single episode, separated only by a commercial break. Upon the entry of the first adult batch, the original weekend show format returned.

• Big Celebr8ty Challenge:Every week on the first teen batch, the housemates were paired up to compete for immunity. As part of their challenge, various celebrities would visit the house each week and participate to challenge the housemates' focus and presence of mind. The winning pair would receive immunity and will be safe from nominations. This was used in the first Teen batch of housemates and was aired every Saturday.

• Decemversus: On Week 5, the twist was introduced where the Official housemates and Star Dreamers will fight for their slots in the house throughout the week in a series of challenges. If the official housemates lost, two of them will be evicted and will be replaced by two Star Dreamers. If they won the challenge, only one of them will get evicted at the end of the week.

• House Players: The Star Dreamers who failed to cross-over as official housemates, along with Aljon Mendoza, were assigned by Big Brother to become House Players where they must accomplish a series of tasks to test the Teen Housemates on who are the most deserving to be part of the Big Four. P10,000 cash reward is at stake for every task given to the house players and the total amount of reward that they collected would be divided for each of the 8 Star Dreamers.
  • Ultimate House Player: On Week 7, the House Players must vote among each other who must become the "Ultim8 House Player" and will go in the Big Brother House as a mole and must pretend that he/she is the latest official housemate in order to shake things up in the house and secretly trigger the housemates. The two were Gabby Sarmiento and Sansan Dagumampan.

• Do-or-Die Challenge: Coming back from the previous season, the Eviction Competition in the form of a "Do-or-Die Challenge" was brought back as an eviction process for nominated housemates Rhys Eugenio, Seth Fedelin and Karina Bautista on Day 54.

2	November 21, 2018 (Day 12)	Day 12 - Day 15		8-tayo ang Domino Tower (Build the Domino Tower) The housemates must build an 8 shaped domino tower on a floating platform at the center of the pool area. The tower must reach a corresponding height as stated in the measuring stick standing at the end of the platform. To win the task, they must be able to complete the 8 shaped tower and make it float for 88 seconds. 3	November 29, 2018 (Day 21)	Day 21 - Day 23		Gr8 to Imperson8 The housemates will become impersonators and will be transformed as Filipino music icons. Just like in the Philippine TV show Your Face Sounds Familiar, the teen housemates must be able to perform the Filipino music icon that will be given to them on a live show performance. To pass the task, they must be able to reach 88,888 tweets through a hashtag "#PBB88KTask". The hashtag count will only be effective between the start of the first performance up until the end of the last performance. To promote their live performance to the viewers, they were tasked to do a vlog for their promotion. 4	December 5, 2018 Day 26	Day 26 - Day 29		Ultim8 Frisbee Relay For this task, there will be three players involved, a catcher, a thrower and a shooter. One housemate must throw the frisbee with a plastic cup above it, while another housemate at the end of the court must be able to catch the frisbee with the pingpong ball in it. On the other hand, one housemate must be able to shoot the pingpong ball into the frisbee cup as it is being thrown before the catcher gets the frisbee. To win the task, they must be able to shoot atleast three balls within three days. In addition to the task, the automatically nominated housemates, Jillian Pilones, Aljon Mendoza and Seth Fedelin were given the chance to remove their auto nomination only if the housemates succeeded in the weekly task. If failed, the number of balls shot will correspond to how many of them would have the auto nomination be lifted. 5	December 11, 2018 Day 32	Day 32 - Day 38		Pinoy Big Brotherhood Bazaar On Week 5, Big Brother together with past seasons' housemates opened a bazaar infront of the Big Brother House. For the 5th Weekly Task, the housemates would participate and represent their season in the bazaar with their stall called "Otsolit". They must design, create and sell 800 shirts with a total value of 200,000 pesos and their sales must double to Php400,000 in order to win the task. They only have one way communication which means orders will only be flashed into the TV screen while the viewers can see them doing their promotions. 6	December 18, 2018 Day 39	Day 39 - Day 44		Big OTSO Concert For the sixth week, the Teen Housemates would be conducting a live concert. In order to win the task, they must accumulate atleast a total of 888,888 views for the all concert videos uploaded on the show's official Youtube page. In addition to that, the housemates would be divided into two teams who will be evaluated by a panel of judges for the week's Big Celebr8ty Challenge. The winning team would receive Immunity for the upcoming eviction while the losing team would be the week's set of nominees. 8	January 2, 2019 Day 54	Day 54 - Day 56		Cube Tower of 2019 Housemates must build a cube tower that will form the year 2019 out of colored cube blocks, they must do these while blindfolded. But while building the cube, there are unexpected masked guests that will demolitize the tower. With a twist, Big Brother gave a task to house players Gabby Sarmiento and Sansan Dagumampan, a secret task to sabotage their weekly task and accuse the housemates that will test their true personality and character while doing the tower. Week 4	Big Celebr8ty Challenge #3	Jungle Bells In a jungle called Jungle Bells, there are four boxes filled with a set of animals each. Each box has a corresponding empty box found at the other side of the activity area. The housemates must transfer each of the animals in the corresponding empty boxes. After transferring they must count the animals inside each four boxes. They must correctly answer an equation which requires the quantity of each set of animals to be able to solve the equation. The equation goes "Frog x Chicken ÷ Lizard + Eel - Snake". The correct solution must be "10 x 9 ÷ 15 + 5 - 2" while the correct answer must be "9". The two pairs who solved the correct answer the fastest would be safe from facing eviction while the losing pairs would be nominated for eviction. Since Aljon Mendoza was ineligible to compete for being automatically nominated, Kaori got the celebrity guest, Juliana as her partner. Week 5	Decemversus Challenge - Game 1	Big Circle Dance In a game similar to a "Newspaper Dance", there are 8 big circles with the first circle being the largest and the eighth being the smallest. All members of both teams must fit in all 8 circles and must stay within the cicle for 8 seconds. The time spent on every circle will be recorded and accumulated. The team with the least amount of accumulated time spent on fitting in the circle will win. Team House Team Camp	Team Camp
	Decemversus Challenge - Game 2	Big Slingshot In this game, both teams must become a "Human Slingshot". Each team has 15 shots to use for shooting. There are 8 Big Targets located high up on the other end of the Activity Area. The team with the most hits wins the challenge. 	Big Celebr8ty Challenge #4 Decemversus Challenge - Game 3 Part 1: Part 2:	Part 1 - Ball Balance Relay There are 8 balls of different sizes and they must transfer the balls from one end to another by using a series of planks with various shapes. Part 2 - Hole in the Wall Maze By using a pulley machine, the players, while standing in a narrow beam, must place four balls of different sizes on top end of the wall maze filled with varying sizes holes. The team who finished the entire challenge the fastest wins. This game is also the 4th Big Celebr8ty Challenge with Maymay Entrata and Edward Barber as guests. If ever the Official Housemates win against the Team Camp, the double eviction will not be pushed through. However, if they lost this challenge, the double eviction will continue. Week 6		Big Otso Concert The Teen Housemates would perform in the "Big Otso Concert". Divided into two teams, both teams must have their own set of performances. Jelay Pilones and Lie Reposposa were assigned as team leaders. The team with the highest scores from the judges would be safe while the losing team would be the nominees for the week. Week 7	Big Jump #1	Big Pole Balance Each Players will have a ball and a long pole with a small skimmer at the end. They must be able to pass the ball placed on a flat skimmer through a maze without falling. A draw lots system was used to determine who goes first through the wire maze. If the ball fell to the ground, they have to go back at the start of the maze. The player who managed to finish the maze first without letting the ball fall, will win the challenge and will get the first Big Four slot for their batch. In addition, the Camp's Star Dreamers were given a chance to choose a player they want to help and the chosen player will receive an aid advantage from the Star Dreamers. Week 8	Do-or-Die Eviction Ligtask Part 1: Part 1:	Part 1: Water Tower Karina Bautista, Rhys Eugenio, and Seth Fedelin must relay into tires to get water from a pool using only a tablespoon. They must then retreat to put water in their designated tower. After the tower fills and the balloon gets popped, they must retrieve a password to open a safe containing a tangram puzzle for the second challenge. Part 2: Tangram Puzzle In the second challenge, they must assemble a tangram while being objective with a picture of a figure 8 serving as their guide. To succeed, they must call Big Brother to inspect the tangram they assembled. 	Big Jump #2	Last Doll Standing Each Player must hold a pole with dolls of themselves placed standing on top. The goal is to not let the doll fall to the ground. For every certain intervals instructed by Big Brother, the players must add an extension to the pole. Note: Gabby Sarmiento and Sansan Dagumampan are not official housaemates. They were voted by their fellow Star Dreamers in the Camp as the Ultimate House Players to move in to the Big Brother House and disguise themselves as official houseamtes for their House player task. Previously-evicted Housemate Aljon Mendoza was sent to the Camp to participate as a House Player for the House Player Twist. Missy Quino made a voluntary exit out of the Big Brother House but Big Brother transfered her to the Camp instead to follow the season's "eight people per house" format as introducing a new additional star dreamer in the camp is already over and would be unnecessary during the point in the game. She was added as a House Player for the House Player twist. Rhys Eugenio got evicted on Day 54 but just like Missy, he was sent to the Camp to become a house player instead of fully evicting him out of the house.

Trivia

• The Season's Batch 1, which is a Teen Edition is the first Teen Edition to feature teen housemates who were all born in the 2000s or Generation Z (born between 1997 to 2012).
• The Batch 1 produced an all-female Big Four, making it the very first time in Pinoy Big Brother history that the Big Four finalists were all females. The second time was in Gen 11, whose Big Four comprised Fyang Smith (the season's winner), Rain Celmar, Kolette Madelo, and Kai Montinola.
• The Batch 1 Edition is technically the 7th Teen Edition to be aired in the series but since this edition was aired under a combined season, it's not regarded as such.
• Batch 1's Teen Housemate Josh Worsley was born in 2005, the same year that Pinoy Big Brother started.
