Country bloke Mat was born and raised in Broken Hill, or as he calls it, “God’s Garden.” By coming on Big Brother, this down-to-earth sparky is not only hoping to challenge himself but give the people of his town and surrounds something to smile at and with any luck, make them proud to call him one of their own.
A self-confessed sports nut, Mat is “batting above average” with fiancé Jessica and is super close with his mum, dad, younger brother and extended family.
Mat says he’ll bring humour, wit, smarts, ADHD energy and a “beautiful big head” into the Big Brother house and reckons his easy-going nature and ability to have a yarn with anyone should take him far. However, sometimes he can be a little naïve and is worried people might try and pull the wool over his eyes and stitch him up in the game.
Mat is looking forward to meeting a diverse range of people and expanding his worldview, but won’t cope with lying, rudeness or anyone who tries to force their opinions down his throat.
When it comes to winning Big Brother, Mat has a simple strategy: “You want to be the neck that turns the head.” He wants to have a say, but not be the head decision-maker, thereby avoiding having a target on his back.
If he were to win, Mat would use the prize money to give Jess the wedding of her dreams and donate to melanoma research.[2]
