A Love Team is a common cultural phenomenon in Philippine entertainment industry and in the Filipino pop culture as well that was brought in to Pinoy Big Brother.[1] [2]
The love team culture in Philippine Cinema and Television dated way back through the 1930s and when Pinoy Big Brother came in to the Philippine Television, it was carried over inside the house by the fans.[3]
Loveteam Culture
A love team is usually a pair of actors who are promoted as a romantic couple. They starred in various drama series and movies altogether and often known in the media as onscreen couples.
Since Pinoy Big Brother is a reality show about social experiment. The housemates often develop mutual romantic relationship. The fans or viewers often get hooked to this budding romance and as a result, they often started supporting and pairing up certain housemates and they usually form loveteam names or shipnames.
What made it so popular among the Pinoy Big Brother fans, most especially among the younger teenage audience was its reflection of the real romance in the outside world or in real life, which is different to most onscreen romance seen on television dramas. These mostly unaware housemates often develop their mutual relationship from being friends, up to mutual understanding, which is very much alike in real world.
However, these relationships among the housemates were mere romantic relationships, not in any way be sexual relationships as sexual intimacy is strictly prohibited inside the Pinoy Big Brother house, obviously because such acts contradicts to the wholesome reputation of the series and due to it being a sensitive topic for the younger viewers and to the strict eyes of the media regulation board.
Some housemates are often paired up by fans to more than one housemate, it is because different fandoms have formed their own love teams to root for, which results to some fandom clashes or the so called love triangles for certain housemates.

- JB Magsaysay & Say Alonzo were considered as the first love team of Pinoy Big Brother, but it was short lived due to JB's early eviction.
- Showmance in Big Brother (U.S.) is somehow the American equivalent of Love Teams.
- Pinoy Big Brother 7 had the most loveteams, all because of various fandoms. Some are also just for fun such as the Banner and Corner love teams.
- Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition 4 were the most controversial season in terms of housemate relationships, the season itself received a number of criticisms for the teen housemates as to not being good role models as they only knew was to flirt with each other. Although no ejections, it was also considered by fans as the season where Big Brother often gets angry and gives reprimands due to the unruly teens.
- Melason's Melisa and Jason, GeeMick's Gee-Ann and Mickey and Candy's Carlo and Wendy are the loveteams that had been successfully married each other after Pinoy Big Brother.
- Kimerald consisting of Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson is considered as the most successful PBB loveteam of all time because of their success. However, their relationship ended already in 2012.
- Aside from romantic relationships, fans also form ship names or friendship names such as Kenley with Bailey May and Kenzo Gutierrez due to their close friendship, as well as KissMay with Maymay Entrata and Kisses Delavin due to their very close friendship. Fans even consider them as Friendship Goals for being so close.
