She was only a baby when she was adopted by a family. "It was my biological grandmother who took care of and supported this family with many grandchildren. My adoptive mother knew her and had already lost a daughter, and when I was born she decided to adopt me," she explained. She decided to enter the program to win the prize and give financial stability to her mother.^[3]
