Camp Star Hunt is a digital reality series and the central twist of Pinoy Big Brother: Otso.
While still under Pinoy Big Brother: Otso as a twist, Camp Star Hunt is a reality series on its own, airing digitally on iWant with episodes solely focusing within the camp. It had its television broadcast via Pinoy Big Brother: Otso's afternoon companion show Pinoy Big Brother Gold from Mondays to Fridays, wherein it featured segments dedicated for Camp Star Hunt highlights.
Originally intended to run from Batch 1 to Batch 4, Camp Star Hunt only appeared during the season's first three batches as it officially closed during The Gr8 C twist in Batch 3. It never returned for the fourth batch of the season.
Concept[]
Camp Star Hunt originated from the "ABS-CBN Star Hunt Grand Auditions", a grand open casting event of ABS-CBN for all of its talent and reality shows , describing it as a "one stop shop" type of casting process. [1] The Star Hunt Auditionees were officially dubbed as Star Dreamers and were able to audition on various shows such as Pilipinas Got Talent, The Voice Philippines, Pinoy Big Brother, Idol Philippines, I Can See Your Voice, and more during the event.
The audition caravan was held on various cities and had a special elimination format among its auditionees. The audition event became a reality documentary series, Star Hunt: The Grand Audition Show and aired from August 20, 2018 until November 9, 2018.
Eventually, Star Hunt was carried over to Pinoy Big Brother: Otso in the form of Camp Star Hunt as a twist, featuring aspiring contestants with a goal to become an official housemate of Pinoy Big Brother.
Format[]
Camp Star Hunt as a twist in Pinoy Big Brother: Otso appears to be a separate place wherein aspiring contestants called Star Dreamers with the main goal of becoming a Pinoy Big Brother housemate would live. Throughout the season, these Star Dreamers would compete to cross-over to Pinoy Big Brother house and become an official housemate of the season.
In accordance with the Otso's format, only eight people would live inside the Big Brother house as official housemates. Every week, a Star Dreamer from Camp Star Hunt would be selected to cross-over to the Big Brother House as an official housemate to take the latest evictee's place inside the house. This would occur until the final week.
Since Otso is separated into batches, the Camp Star Hunt twist would be implemented throughout the first four batches, each with a separate set of cast. During the season's inaugural batch, Camp Star Hunt was kept secret from the official housemates and the star dreamers who crossed-over were not allowed to reveal their origins nor the existence of the camp until Week 5.
Cross-Overs[]
Throughout each batch of the season, a Housemate Selection would take place every week to select a star dreamer that would cross-over into the Big Brother House and become an official housemate.
To determine who would be eligible for the housemate selections, the star dreamers must participate on Weekly Jobs, the camp's equivalent of Weekly Tasks. Divided into two teams, the star dreamers must face various real-life jobs every week under the guidance of supervisors who would train and judge them throughout the week. These supervisors were professionals in the job that they would be performing within the week. The winning team's members would be eligible for crossing over, wherein one of them would be selected to become an official housemate at the end of the week.
In addition, once a star dreamer crossed-over to the Big Brother House, a new Star Dreamer would enter the camp, in accordance to the One Out, One In format of the season.
Elimination[]
In contrast to Pinoy Big Brother, there were no evictions nor eliminations in Camp Star Hunt. If the remaining star dreamers failed to cross-over during the final housemate selection, they would eventually just leave the camp altogether.
However in Batch 2, a special elimination called, Dismissal was implemented and a star dreamer could get dismissed if he/she failed in their weekly jobs thrice. In the event where two or more star dreamers have three job failures, the camp would vote for who they want to stay and the star dreamer with the least votes would be dismissed. Interestingly, this type of elimination took place only twice throughout the season.
Official Housemates vs. Star Dreamers[]
On every final housemate selection of each batch, Pinoy Big Brother housemates and Camp Star Hunt star dreamers would compete within the week in a series of house competitions for their place inside the Big Brother house.
If the Star Dreamers win, two of them would be able to cross-over, at the expense of a double eviction occurring among official housemates in order for them to take the evictees' place inside the house. If the official housemates win against Camp Star Hunt, either a single eviction or no cross-over would take place at the end of the week.
The Camp[]
Main Camp - Upcycled Industrial[]
Camp Star Hunt was first introduced on Day 2 of Batch 1 when Star Dreamers who failed the First 8 Housemate Selection moved in.
The Camp had an industrial theme with brick walls, industrial windows and metal paneling as its dominant design elements. In addition, some of the furniture in previous Pinoy Big Brother seasons were upcycled for the camp.
It had an open layout with two bedrooms with bunk beds. Compared to the Big Brother house, the Camp lacks an outdoor area for sunlight, and Big Brother was not present nor heard. Camp Star Hunt's host Alex Gonzaga also visits the house occasionally for various announcements.
Interestingly, the camp gets minor changes in every batch:
- In Batch 2, the bunk beds were replaced by double beds. Some furniture in the living room were also replaced.
- In Batch 3, the Camp had a makeover by having a midcentury modern - industrial fusion. The brick walls were painted gray while mid-century furniture appeared. The industrial metal wall panels were replaced by golden metal paneling. The diary room now had geometric patterns as a backdrop instead of the corrugated roof backdrop that appeared on the two previous batches. In addition, the former Pinoy Dream Academy facade was officially adopted as the camp's facade and a Camp Star Hunt logo is now placed at the facade.
Camp B - Outdoor/Glamping[]
A second camp was temporarily used at the start of Batch 2, located at the refurbished Activity Area. Camp B was designed to resemble an outdoor camp complete with household amenities in which Big Brother called as "Glamping" when Batch 1's Teen Big Four toured the camp. This was inhabited only for the first two days of the 2nd Batch and was dismantled when the first 8 official housemates were selected and the remaining star dreamers merged together in the Main Camp.
The Island[]
Prior to the start of Batch 3, a special island destination was introduced, an actual secluded island where Teen Star Dreamers would start off their journey to becoming an Official Housemate. There were two separate island camps inhabited by two sets of Star Dreamers, one camp mainly for the males and the other for the females.
Batch 1[]
Batch 1 Twists[]
- House Players: The Star Dreamers who failed to cross-over were made to be Big Brother's House Players where for every task they would accomplish, they would win P10,000. At the end of the Batch, the accumulated reward will be divided among the House Players.

Camp Opening[]
On the second evening of the series' two-night live premiere, the male and female teens who failed to be selected and get the first eight official housemate slots in the Big Brother house were announced to be going to a special place called "Camp Star Hunt" to continue their battle on becoming an official housemate. They were eventually sent to a van which would be transporting them to the camp. The camp was officially introduced when the Teen Star Dreamers finally moved in to the camp.
The show's host Alex Gonzaga entered the camp to officially welcome them in their new home and later had a getting-to-know session and sharing of thoughts on the game-changing twist that is Camp Star Hunt. However, their fun is temporarily cut short when the teens receive a surprise visit from their loved ones. While some are overojyed to see their family, others turn emotional with this quick reunion. Nevertheless, the housemate hopefuls refocus on their quest upon hearing Alex’s announcement regarding how the Camp would work.
Week 1[]
The first job of the Star Dreamers was officially announced. It was revealed that the teen Star Dreamers would be working as barbecue vendors where they would be preparing, cooking and selling barbecues.
The Star Dreamers welcome a restaurant owner, Larry Convencido Jr., to the Star Hunt Camp. Larry then guided the Star Dreamers to prepare for their first job. Later, Larry picked two leaders from the Star Dreamers to lead their group. Criza Taa and Rhys Eugenio became the team leaders for their first job. The Star Dreamers also shared what they learned from Larry.
Divided into two groups, the Star Dreamers prepared for their barbecue selling task. While one team managed to run things smoothly, the other struggled to even come up with a concrete plan. Team Rhys had a misunderstanding as Gabby Sarmiento and Krist Vertudez couldn't agree on each other's plans when constructing their food stall. Nevertheless, the teenagers worked together on their mission to keep their hopes of becoming an official housemate alive.
The Star Dreamers’ barbecue selling task commenced. The members of Team Criza and Team Rhys scrambled in getting customers for their barbecue. As time dwindled down, Team Criza panicked over pressure while Team Rhys encountered a major mishap.
At the end of their job, Team Criza managed to earn sales higher than Team Rhys giving them 8 points while Team Rhys only got 4 points. Aside from the points collected in their job, they would be ranked by the Job Supervisor Larry from 8 being the highest and 1 being the lowest. Eventually, four Star Dreamers came on top, Criza Taa with 16 points, Missy Quino with 13 points, Achilles Samain with 12 points and Rhys Eugenio with 11 points. These Top 4 Star Dreamers would receive eligibility for a Cross-Over Selection to be determined by the viewers.
At the end of the week, the viewer voting results were officially announced and it was Criza who received the highest viewer votes, thus making her an official housemate and being able leave the camp and cross-over to the Big Brother House. She entered the house right after the Pinoy Big Brother's first evictee Josh Worsley went out of the Big Brother House.
Right after Criza crossed-over, a new teen Star Dreamer was introduced, the 18-year old Kurt Gerona of Bohol.
Week 2[]
Week 2 began with the arrival of the new Star Dreamer, Kurt Gerona in which they welcomed happily.
The next day, they were given a chance to express all their insecurities by writing them down on a piece of paper and stick it into the punching bag to punch the negativity away. The punching bag eventually became a hint to their job for the week.
Later, health and wellness coach Coach Nikki Torres and gym instructor Coach Culver Padilla entered the camp to introduce the 2nd Job to the Star Dreamers and also become their Job Supervisor for the entire week. They then went on to get to know the Star Dreamers before teaching them a full body workout. Afterward, Nikki and Culver divide the Star Dreamers into two groups and pick two rightful leaders. Sansan Dagumampan and Gabby Sarmiento were appointed as the team leaders for their team.
Fitness coach Nikki Torres gave the Star Dreamers some tips in cooking healthier food. She then supervised Team Gabby and Team Sansan in preparing for their dance workout task. However, conflict arose between the members of a group during the preparation. Both teams later present their choreographies in the final rehearsals.
The Star Dreamers commenced their second weekly job where they traveled to a fitness gym for their job. Divided into two groups, Teams Wonder4 and GG Force are each given time to teach a full body workout. While doing so, fitness coaches Nikki Torres and Culver Padilla critiqued the Star Dreamers’ team and individual performances. The clients also gave their thoughts on their gym instructors for the day.
The judging for the job consisted of votes, from the supervisors and for the gym trainees.

Batch 2 Twists[]
- Two Camps: Batch 2 began with two camps with two groups of Star Dreamers.
- Ultim8 Star Dreamer Challenge: For the first housemate selection, both camps must accomplish the challenge. The first 8 official housemates would be chosen based on individual performances from both camps. In addition, Star Dreamers who lost the challenge and stayed in the camp would have their loss counted for the risk of dismissal.
- Big Brother's Choice: Unlike Batch 1 where the public had the power to choose who among the Star Dreamers will cross-over, the Batch 2 Star Dreamers selected to cross-over were chosen by Big Brother.
- Camp Dismissal: A new type of elimination process called "Dismissal", a Star Dreamer can now be dismissed from the Camp. If a Star Dreamer landed on the losing team in their weekly jobs for three consecutive times, he/she will be in danger of a dismissal.
- Star Dreamers' Vote: In the event that there are more than one Star Dreamer in danger of a possible dimissal, the remaining safe Star Dreamers will have to vote which among those nominated for dismissal should stay. The one with the lowest save votes from their fellow Star Dreamers will be dismissed.

Post-Big Brother use[]
After it's Pinoy Big Brother appearance, Camp Star Hunt was used as the residence and training camp of the Star Hunt Academy boy and girl idol trainees from August 2019 up to November 2020.
Trivia[]
- The Official Theme Song specially used for the Camp Star Hunt is entitled "Bituin (Star)" sung by Maymay Entrata.
- The Pinoy Big Brother OTSO has its own separate theme song, entitled "Otso Na! (It's Finally Eight!)" sung by Toni Gonzaga & Alex Gonzaga.
- Although the Crossed-Over Star Dreamers are seen getting out of the car when being welcomed in front of the Big Brother House to enter, the Camp is actually located just within the PBB studio compound; specifically located on what used to be the area occupied by House B in Double Up, Apartment in Teen Clash, and Industrial House in Pinoy Big Brother: Unlimited.
- Unlike the official housemates in Big Brother House where they are in complete confinement, the Star Dreamers travel outside to a certain destination every week for their Weekly Jobs.
- Camp Star Hunt's closure during Batch 3 gained many speculation among fans. Some theorized that it was due to the lower ratings of Batch 3, while some theorized it was due to the gaining popularity of Batch 3 star dreamers more than its official housemates. Nevertheless, the real reason behind The Gr8 C twist that saw the abrupt closure of the camp during the early weeks of Batch 3 were never disclosed.
