Bigg Boss 13 (Hindi)

Bigg Boss 13 (Hindi) is the thirteenth season of the Hindi version of Bigg Boss.

Background[]

Development[]

The season was announced on May 29, 2019.^[1] On May 22, 2019, Salman Khan confirmed he will be hosting the season.^[2] The first promo was released on August 24, 2019.^[3]

House[]

The house pictures were officially released on 23 September 2019.^[4] The house followed the theme of a "Museum" and was located in Goregaon.

Eye[]

The eye was officially revealed in June 2019. The season featured a red eye logo with several fire flares coming out of it. The pupil of the eye was sky blue with a black lens in it.

Casting[]

In May 2019, it was confirmed that there will be only celebrities and no civilians due to Bigg Boss 12 (Hindi) being unsuccessful.^[5] On September 20, 2019, Devoleena Bhattacharjee and Sidharth Shukla became the first two confirmed housemates.^[6]^[7] Their promos were also released they same day on social media.^[8]^[9]

Twists[]

Bed Friend Forever: On the day of the launch before the housemates entered the house, female housemate were given two options to choose from to be their BFF. It was later announced that they have to abide by the rules and couldn't change their bed partners. On Day 10, due to legal issues, the twist was cancelled.
BB Elite Club: On Week 16, Bigg Boss announced the BB Elite Club whose members will get special privileges and power to save themselves from being nominated for any week before the final week.
Connection Week: On Week 18, Bigg Boss announced that connections of housemates will come to play with their Connections.

Controversies[]

Through their time in the house, housemates will do or say things that are not acceptable to the rules that were explained to them before they entered the house. If an action is deemed too offensive to the viewing public, a housemate can be ejected or given a warning by the producers of the show. The following housemates were involved in a breach of the rules and were either given a warning or ejection by the Bigg Boss producers.

Koena Mitra's controversial eviction[]

Koena Mitra became one of the popular housemates amongst the viewers.^[10] Her eviction had came to a shock towards the viewers and Koena herself.^[11] Many people expressed their disappointment towards her eviction and called it unfair. The public demanded her return to the show. Post her eviction Koena herself shared her disappointment to the producers, channel and host.^[12] She said "In the first Weekend Ka Vaar I felt he (Salman Khan) was cold with me and when Siddharth Dey started talking rubbish and then lied about it, thank god that video was aired. I tried to keep my point, where Salman didn’t give me chance to keep my point. Salman didn’t give me a chance to talk. First weekend, I was obviously offended by him, I felt it was one-sided, he should have given me the chance to talk." She added.. "And in the second weekend, when I started talking about Shehanaaz mocking me, Salman immediately defended her saying people are loving it and when I came outside the house I saw the reality that no one is loving it. Everyone is criticising, everybody is questioning her credibility, what work has she done. No one knew about her before she entered the house, when I left the house I realised audiences reaction is exactly opposite of what Salman had said which means he was personally defending her and this didn’t go down well with audiences."^[13] She later said she regrets doing the show and called it rigged. She said on her social media, "I regret saying YES to #BigBoss13, everyone knows why. #RiggedBb13 I feel horrible for every participant locked in that house with 2 severely ill psychopaths!!! #BB13 Karma awaits."^[14]

Snakes & Ladders task controversy[]

In the fourth week, during the snake and ladders task a big controversy erupted after Sidharth Shukla, Devoleena Bhattacharjee, Asim Riaz, Shefali Bagga and Paras Chhabra started getting aggressive and using violence.^[15] Sidharth started pushing his fellow housemates which became a big problem.^[16] Devoleena later shocked everyone when she slapped fellow housemate Shehnaaz Gill.^[17] She also threatened to file a MeToo accusation against Sidharth which viewers were against of as they felt she was using the movement in an inappropriate way.^[18] Post the task got cancelled Asim, Paras and Devoleena started throwing things around the house in a fit of rage.

Himanshi-Shehnaaz's controversial past[]

On October 16, 2019, it was said that Himanshi Khurana would enter the show as a new entrant and finally made her appearance at the end of the fifth week.^[19] It became headlines due to her past with Shehnaaz Gill. Soon after seeing Himanshi, Shehnaaz couldn't control her emotions and started to hit herself.^[20] Throughout their time on the show Himanshi and Shehnaaz never resolved their issues and instead kept arguing.

Rashami Desai-Sidharth Shukla's tea fight[]

Rashami Desai and Sidharth Shukla never got along with each other throughout the season due to their past personal issues and kept fighting with each other.^[21] During one of the weekends, after a massive fight, Rashmi threw tea on Sidharth Shukla during a Weekend Ka Vaar episode when Sidharth was constantly referring to Rashami as "aisi ladki". Salman had seen all the drama live and he told both Rashami and Sidharth off for their behaviour. Majority of the viewers had supported Sidharth and blasted Rashami for trying to defame him.

Arhaan Khan's past[]

Rashami Desai's rumoured boyfriend Arhaan Khan was revealed to have a child on national television. He had kept this a secret from Rashmi and this caused a lot of controversy in their relationship. Rashami later separated from Khan post the show ended.^[22]

Madhurima Tuli's ejection[]

Madhurima Tuli and Vishal Aditya Singh's fights were always controversial due to their past relationship. After a massive fight, Madhurima in a fit of rage hit Vishal repeatedly with a frying pan.^[23] Due to violence, Madhurima was ejected from the show. Viewers objected to this and compared it to Asim Riaz, Devoleena Bhattacharjee and Sidharth Shukla who were saved even though they also used violence before.^[24]
