Big Brother Croatia is the Croatian version of the reality show Big Brother that aired on RTL Television, in which numerous contestants live in an isolated house trying to stay in the house for a maximum of 100 days, with the goal of winning a big cash prize at the end of the game. The show is licensed by a foreign show of the same name, produced by Endemol. Croatian Big Brother holds the record for most male victories in a row since its inception.

History[]

The license for the program was bought by RTL Television in mid-2004, and it started with its first season of the show that autumn. So far, 167 contestants, the so-called "stanari (eng. housemates)" of the Big Brother house, have participated in the show. When entering the house, housemates must comply with the house rules; house occupants can leave the house at any time without permission or be forcibly removed from the game if they have broken any rules, such as violent behavior.

Production[]

House[]

Big Brother house is located in Jadran film studio in Dubrava, part of the city of Zagreb. In the fifth season, the house was located in the movie city of Kantan, about forty kilometers west of Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. In 2011 and 2015, the show was filmed at home in Belgrade's Kosutnjak (regional Big Brother). After two regional seasons, Big Brother returned to Croatia in 2016.

Trivia[]

  • Big Brother Croatia holds the record for having the most regular seasons (seven) with only male contestants winning the show each year (although the celebrity edition was won by a woman). Daca from season 2 and Maja Paola from season 4 came very close though, losing by only 2% difference to the eventual winners Hamdija and Vedran, respectively.
